Collection: Autumn '24: Monster, Monster

Before I found horror, I had gothic literature. My GCSE English Literature teacher was my absolute idol - a tiny, pale, dark haired woman, in flowy garbs of black, purple and ruby, adorned with jangly silver jewellery. She taught us Frankenstein; I discovered the sublime. She gave us essays about Mrs Rochester; I went and found more essays, more books, learnt about subversion, feminism, politics. She was a big part of why, when I went to university, I studied English Literature (it shows, right?)

I was very happy in my world of 19th and 20th century creepy books, so I rarely felt the need to branch out into horror films. The movies of the time might have had something to do with it; I am not a disaster movie girlie. You can keep your Final Destination, and your slasher flicks. And the gore? I'll pass. But then, much MUCH later, I started to dabble in some classic horror and to my surprise discovered they were not as gross or vomit-inducing as I thought they'd be. I've developed a taste for folk horror, supernatural thrillers, foreign horror and obvs anything with my beloved Frankenstein's monster or Dracula (another fave book) I'm absolutely all in.

Monster Monster celebrates some of my favourite gothic novels and classic horror characters with my own little Happy Stuff twist. You might be asking Vic, where are the women please? Mary Shelley must be spinning in her grave. And you'd be quite right. I did design some female counterparts for my creatures (even monsters get lonely) but I wasn't convinced by them. They either weren't recognisable enough, or a little too recognisable, if you know what I mean. So monstresses might be on the cards for next year, but this year it's all about the boys.
Along with my beloved monsters, I've also added to this Halloween's offerings the Forest Floor Earrings (with the tiny woodlouse charm!) and some updated skulls, ghosts, and pumpkin charm earrings if you're after something more for everyday. Yes, skulls and ghosts are every damn day.
